Rosacea treatment by IPL
Rosacea is characterized by flushing of the facial skin on mainly the cheeks and the forehead. The redness usually lasts for several days or weeks and may even extend to the eyes. Sometimes, after a few weeks, the Rosacea may go into remission on its own. In other cases, Rosacea can be more akin to a chronic disease. Unfortunately, knowledge is limited regarding the origins of Rosacea. However, we do know that common triggers for flare-ups include:
-
Alchohol
-
Sun exposure
-
Foods, especially spicier food
IPL treatments are great for patients with diffuse redness and dilated vessels on the face whether it is associated with rosacea or from other causes.
IPL treatments use a bigger spot size which allows for quicker treatments of large areas. There is also less bruising usually with IPL treatments.
While medications have long been used to keep the inflammation -- the bumps (papules), pimples (pustules) and some of the related redness -- of rosacea at bay, many dermatologists have found certain types of lasers and light sources offer important options for addressing components of the disorder that are more difficult to treat.
